In a commendable effort to bring education to the doorsteps of marginalized youngsters, the Barishal University unit of Bondhusa has initiated a year-long educational program. Launched as part of their anniversary celebrations under the banner of 'A Good Deed' campaign, the initiative kicked off on October 12 at the West Kornokathi colony adjacent to the university. The program commenced with the distribution of essential learning materials and an inaugural teaching session, ensuring that underprivileged children in the area have regular access to structured learning and educational tools.
Organizers emphasized that the primary objective of this initiative is to instill a passion for learning among children who are at risk of dropping out or have been entirely deprived of formal schooling due to socioeconomic barriers. Despite harboring a strong desire to learn, many children in these communities fail to continue their education because their families struggle to afford basic school supplies or private tutors. To bridge this gap, dedicated volunteers from the university's Bondhusa unit have stepped forward to conduct regular classes and engage the children in various interactive educational activities.
The opening day witnessed overwhelming enthusiasm among the residents and parents of the colony. One local guardian shared that while they deeply desire to educate their children, the crushing daily burden of household expenses makes it nearly impossible to purchase books, notebooks, or afford private tuition. They expressed profound gratitude for the volunteer-led initiative, noting that this timely support would pave the way for a brighter future for their children.
Another parent added that despite their best intentions, demanding daily struggles often leave them with little time to supervise their children's studies effectively. Having enthusiastic volunteers regularly teach and guide the youngsters will enable them to grasp vital concepts and progress academically. Community members believe that such grassroots volunteer efforts are crucial in narrowing educational disparities and fostering a compassionate society.
Looking ahead, the organizers from Barishal University's Bondhusa plan to sustain and potentially expand the scope of this year-long program. Volunteers have scheduled regular visits to the colony to ensure continuity in teaching and to monitor each child's academic development. By empowering these young minds, the initiative aims to build a solid foundation for a more literate, equitable, and hopeful future within the local community.
