Residents in Phulbari have erupted in protest, organizing a massive demonstration and human chain to voice their grievances against an alleged land fraud syndicate. The protesters, carrying placards and banners, demanded immediate legal action against those involved in the systematic forgery of land documents that has left many families in distress.
According to the victims, a well-organized group has been operating in the region, creating fake deeds and fraudulent paperwork to seize ancestral and purchased lands. Many landowners discovered that their properties had been transferred to others without their knowledge or consent. The victims claim that despite repeated attempts to seek help from local authorities, the syndicate—allegedly backed by influential figures—has managed to evade accountability, leaving ordinary citizens at risk of losing their livelihoods.
During the protest, speakers highlighted that land-related disputes have become a major source of harassment for the local community, particularly targeting the elderly and vulnerable families. The syndicate is accused of skillfully manipulating records for both government-owned 'khas' land and private property. The protesters have warned of further, more intense agitation if the masterminds behind these fraudulent activities are not brought to justice immediately.
In response to the growing unrest, local administrative officials have assured the public that the matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness. Authorities stated that an investigation is underway, and strict legal measures will be taken against those found guilty. Verification of land office records has reportedly commenced to identify the extent of the forgery.
The situation has caused significant public outrage in the area. Civil society members are calling for a coordinated effort between the local administration and the Ministry of Land to curb such criminal activities. The victims remain hopeful that a swift judicial process will not only restore their property rights but also restore peace and order to the community.
