Meteorological authorities have issued an urgent weather advisory predicting severe Kalbaishakhi squalls and heavy downpours across various parts of Bangladesh, including the capital city, Dhaka. According to a special bulletin released by the weather department, a deep convective cloud formation over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal regions has triggered heightened safety precautions nationwide.
In light of the developing atmospheric conditions, maritime ports at Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been directed to maintain caution signals. Furthermore, river ports across major inland waterways have been advised to hoist river warning signal number two. Meteorologists warn that the convergence of localized heat and high moisture levels from the Bay of Bengal could cause sudden high-speed winds, heavy rainfall, and intense lightning strikes.
To prevent waterborne accidents, all small transport vessels, trawlers, and fishing boats operating within inland water routes have been instructed to suspend navigation and seek immediate shelter until weather conditions stabilize. Transport authorities have emphasized strict adherence to safety guidelines, prohibiting overloading and risky operations during squally weather to prevent maritime casualties in vulnerable river basins.
In response to the emergency weather alert, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has activated specialized control rooms to monitor real-time updates and coordinate response operations across districts. Local administrations in low-lying and coastal zones have been put on high alert to handle potential emergencies, power disruptions, or infrastructure damage caused by sudden storm surges and uprooted trees.
Pre-monsoon squalls, locally known as Kalbaishakhi, are seasonal phenomena in Bangladesh; however, recent climate volatility has increased their frequency and potential for localized destruction. Citizens have been urged to avoid open spaces, electrical poles, and large trees during thunderous weather. Farmers carrying out seasonal harvesting have also been advised to secure crops promptly to minimize agricultural loss from heavy downpours and strong wind gusts.
