Police have apprehended three youths in the Asadgate area of Dhaka while they were allegedly preparing to commit a mugging. Acting on a tip-off, a law enforcement team conducted a raid in the vicinity and successfully detained the suspects. During the search, officers recovered sharp knives from their possession, which were reportedly intended for use in criminal activities.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspects have been involved in mugging pedestrians across various parts of the capital for some time. They had specifically targeted the Asadgate area due to its high foot traffic and strategic importance as a transit hub. Authorities noted that the group frequently changes their operational locations to evade police surveillance.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that a formal case has been filed against the trio at the local police station. Investigators are currently questioning the suspects to identify other members of the gang and locate the ringleader. Police have emphasized that patrols and intelligence surveillance have been intensified across the city to curb such criminal activities.
While the arrests have brought a sense of relief to local residents, concerns regarding public safety persist. Citizens have urged the authorities to increase police presence, particularly during late hours or in less populated areas, to prevent future incidents. The police administration reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and stated that such anti-crime drives will continue.
The suspects will be produced before the court, and investigators are currently determining whether to seek remand for further questioning. Authorities are also checking if the individuals have any prior criminal records. This operation is seen as a significant step in the ongoing effort to dismantle mugging syndicates and ensure the safety of the capital's residents.
