The body of Md Shahed Ahmed, a Bangladeshi expatriate worker killed in a missile attack by the Iran-backed Houthi armed group at King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh, is scheduled to arrive home tomorrow, Friday. The flight carrying his remains is expected to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 8:35 AM.
This information was disclosed in a press release issued by the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment on Thursday. According to the release, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam will be present at Cargo Gate No. 8 of the airport to receive Shahed's body.
The tragic incident took place on October 10 at Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport, killing 14 people, including Shahed. Hailing from Madla village in Bogura's Shajahanpur upazila, Shahed was the son of Md Rafiqul Islam and Shahera Begum.
Shahed was working as a plumber on a project in Jeddah under a Saudi contracting firm and held a valid work permit (Iqama) in the country. He had previously come home on leave following his brother's death. While returning to his workplace in Jeddah via Riyadh after his vacation, he fell victim to the airport attack.
Aside from Shahed, another Bangladeshi national, Md Nasrullah Badorpuri, was also killed in the same attack. Nasrullah was from Badorpur village in Cumilla's Nangalkot upazila. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare had earlier reported that 24 other Bangladeshis were injured in the incident.
