Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has become a name synonymous with terror in the Indian entertainment industry, particularly within Bollywood. Over the past three years, the Bishnoi gang's involvement has been linked to at least four major crimes in Mumbai.

Most recently, reports surfaced that members of the Bishnoi gang were involved in an October 18 shooting targeting Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff. Sources indicated that the attack was reportedly connected to the gang's ongoing feud with fellow actor Salman Khan.

Following a series of high-profile attacks, questions have been raised regarding why the Mumbai Police are unable to interrogate gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

The primary reason the Mumbai Police cannot access Bishnoi lies in an order issued by India's Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Bishnoi is currently imprisoned at the Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. According to a report by The Indian Express, the Union Home Ministry has imposed strict restrictions on removing him from the prison, requiring special permission for any external investigative agency to question him.

In August 2023, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, led by Amit Shah, issued this directive under Section 268 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), effectively prohibiting other agencies from taking Bishnoi out of jail for interrogation.

Recently, the validity of this order has been extended multiple times under Section 303 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which replaced the older Code of Criminal Procedure.
