A 12-year-old schoolgirl in Gazipur's Kaliganj upazila has allegedly been subjected to repeated rape under threats and forced to undergo an abortion using medication. Following a formal complaint, police arrested three individuals, including the victim's cousin, in connection with the incident.

According to police, the suspects were apprehended during a raid in the upazila late Wednesday night and were subsequently sent to jail through the court on Thursday afternoon. Prior to the arrests, the victim's mother filed a written complaint naming four individuals at the local police station on Wednesday night, which was later registered as a formal case. The victim is a fourth-grade student at a local kindergarten.

According to the case statement, the victim's father passed away about six years ago. The family consists of three daughters and a son. The eldest daughter is married, and since both the mother and another sister are employed outside, the victim mostly stayed home alone. The arrested cousin allegedly lured the child to their abandoned family home in May and violated her. Subsequently, the other three accused repeatedly raped the victim at various locations by threatening to kill her, leading to her pregnancy.

The statement further reveals that upon realizing the child had become pregnant, the accused cousin procured and administered abortion pills to her. Around 4:00 AM on Wednesday, the child experienced severe abdominal pain, resulting in a miscarriage. At that point, the victim disclosed the entire ordeal to her mother. She was initially rushed to the upazila health complex for primary treatment and later transferred to a medical college hospital in Gazipur for advanced medical care.

Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Zakir Hossain confirmed the filing of the case and the subsequent arrests.
