The body of a young man who went missing after falling into a river during the immersion of Durga Puja idols has been recovered. The tragic incident has cast a shadow of mourning over the local community. The youth reportedly lost his balance and fell into the river while participating in the immersion rituals, leading to his disappearance beneath the water.
Upon receiving the report, the Fire Service and Civil Defense rescue team arrived at the scene and immediately launched a search operation. Eyewitnesses stated that the riverbank was crowded with devotees during the immersion process. Despite the festive atmosphere, the sudden fall of the youth into the deep, fast-flowing water created panic. Bystanders attempted to rescue him, but the strong currents and depth of the river made it impossible for them to reach him in time.
After an extensive search operation, the fire service divers successfully located and recovered the body. The scene at the riverbank turned heart-wrenching as family members and relatives arrived to identify the victim. Law enforcement officials and local administration representatives were present at the site to oversee the recovery process and ensure that the body was handed over to the family following necessary legal formalities.
This incident has dampened the festive spirit and raised serious concerns regarding safety protocols during public religious events. Experts and local authorities have noted that accidents during idol immersion are often linked to inadequate safety measures at riverbanks and overcrowding. Local representatives have pledged to strengthen security and safety monitoring for future events to prevent such tragic loss of life.
The local community is currently in a state of mourning. The administration has issued a public advisory urging citizens to exercise extreme caution and avoid overcrowding at riverbanks during immersion ceremonies. The local Puja Udjapan Parishad has expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family, emphasizing the need for collective vigilance during such large-scale cultural and religious gatherings.
