A harrowing incident of gang rape has been reported in the Keraniganj area on the outskirts of Dhaka, where a domestic worker was subjected to brutal assault and blackmail. According to the victim's complaint, she visited a residence in the Keraniganj Model Police Station area on the morning of October 19 for work, where she was initially raped by a man who recorded the act on his mobile phone.
Following the initial assault, the perpetrators used the recorded video to threaten the victim, warning that they would circulate the footage publicly if she resisted or reported the incident. Under this duress, three other individuals joined in the assault, resulting in a gang rape. The victim was further intimidated with threats of severe consequences if she disclosed the ordeal to anyone.
Traumatized by the events, the victim eventually returned home and confided in her family members. After consulting with her relatives, she decided to pursue legal action and filed a formal written complaint against four unidentified individuals at the Keraniganj Model Police Station on Saturday afternoon.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Keraniganj Model Police Station, Ruhul Quddus, confirmed that a formal complaint has been received. He stated that the police are treating the matter with the utmost urgency and have launched a comprehensive investigation to uncover the facts. Specialized teams are currently working to identify and apprehend the suspects involved in this heinous crime.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the perpetrators acted with premeditation, utilizing the threat of digital blackmail to silence the victim. This incident has sparked widespread outrage in the local community, with citizens demanding swift justice and the immediate arrest of those responsible. The case has also reignited concerns regarding the safety and vulnerability of domestic workers in the region.
