A concerning incident occurred in the Moghbazar area of Dhaka early Saturday morning when unidentified assailants opened fire on a private vehicle belonging to popular singer Asif Akbar. The incident took place around 4:45 AM in front of the Bishal Center. Fortunately, the artist was not inside the vehicle at the time, and no injuries were reported.
Asif Akbar's wife, Salma Asif Mitu, recounted the event, stating that she heard the sound of gunfire and rushed downstairs. She reported seeing an individual fleeing the scene on CCTV footage. Mitu confirmed that her husband is safe and was asleep when the incident occurred. When asked about potential suspects, she stated that they have no known enemies and that Asif has always maintained cordial relationships with everyone, making the motive behind this attack particularly baffling.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hatirjheel Police Station, Md. Asaduzzaman, confirmed that the singer maintains a private office in Moghbazar, where the car was parked. Police have since arrived at the scene to collect evidence and are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the perpetrators. As of now, the motive behind the shooting remains unknown.
The incident has caused significant alarm in the local community and among the singer's fans. Questions are being raised regarding the security situation in the area and the intent behind targeting a public figure's property. Law enforcement officials have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that they are committed to bringing those responsible to justice.
As the investigation continues, the focus remains on analyzing the forensic evidence and the digital trail left by the attackers. The authorities have promised to disclose further details once the investigation reaches a significant breakthrough. For now, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for heightened vigilance in urban areas.
