A concerning incident of gunfire occurred in the Moghbazar area of Dhaka, targeting the vehicle of popular singer Asif Akbar. The incident took place early Saturday morning, around 4:50 AM, in front of the Bishal Centre. Unidentified assailants fired at the vehicle, specifically aiming at the seat behind the driver, shattering the glass. Fortunately, neither the singer nor his driver was inside the car at the time, preventing a potential tragedy.
Following the incident, Asif Akbar expressed his belief that the attack was highly premeditated. He stated that the perpetrators had been monitoring his movements for a long time. 'Those who did this studied my routine. They knew exactly when I leave my home after Fajr prayers and which route I take. The bullet was aimed precisely at my head level, which suggests they knew my height and position,' the singer remarked. He emphasized that the precision of the attack indicates a calculated effort rather than a random act of violence.
Regarding the motive behind the attack, Akbar maintained that he has no known enemies. 'I express my thoughts openly, but I have not done anything that would warrant an attempt on my life. I do not have any long-standing feuds with anyone,' he said. He also shared that he was saved by a stroke of luck; his eldest son, calling from Canada, had delayed his departure by five minutes as they were speaking on the phone. This brief delay proved to be life-saving.
Law enforcement officials have recovered a spent shell casing from the scene and have initiated an investigation. The incident has caused significant alarm among the public and the music community. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the suspects involved in the shooting.
As the investigation proceeds, the focus remains on uncovering the motive behind this targeted attack. While the singer is physically unharmed, the incident has left him and his family deeply shaken. Law enforcement agencies have assured that they are working diligently to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of the artist.
