The Bangladesh Police have adopted a strict zero-tolerance policy against drugs, youth gang culture, extortion, and all forms of terrorism to ensure public safety and restore absolute order across the country. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir announced that law enforcement agencies are intensifying their crackdown on criminal syndicates, emphasizing that no leniency will be shown to perpetrators of violence and extortion.
While inspecting the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram Puja mandap in Narayanganj city on Monday night, the IGP briefed journalists about the comprehensive strategies being implemented. He stated that intelligence agencies, including DGFI, NSI, and the Special Branch (SB) of police, have been directed to compile detailed lists of extortionists, tender manipulators, and terrorists at the district and upazila levels. By targeting the key ringleaders responsible for societal instability, authorities aim to dismantle criminal networks swiftly.
Addressing the legal bottlenecks that often allow habitual offenders to walk free, the police chief underscored the need for stricter judicial oversight regarding bails. He noted that measures are being taken to ensure that hardened criminals do not secure long-term bail easily, thereby preventing them from resuming their illegal activities and intimidating local communities.
Highlighting the menace of drug abuse and the rise of youth gangs, IGP Ali Hossain Fakir called for a robust social movement involving families and communities. He pointed out that drug addiction is driving a section of the youth toward violent crimes and domestic abuse. He urged parents to monitor their children's associations and daily routines closely to protect them from falling into criminal paths.
To counter youth gang violence at the grassroots level, initiatives are underway to form community-based committees in every neighborhood as well as in schools and colleges. Warning against the devastating impacts of synthetic drugs like Yaba, which fuel murders and severe crimes, the IGP reiterated that multifaceted administrative and social interventions are being deployed. Regarding security for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations, he assured that there are no immediate threats, and security forces remain fully vigilant to thwart any disruptive attempts by malicious groups.
