The body of Bangladeshi worker Shahed Ahmed, who was killed in an attack at the King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, has been brought back to the country. On Friday morning, his remains were officially handed over to his family at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The handover took place in the presence of State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam. Shahed's wife, Kohinur Aktar, received the body on behalf of the family. Following the handover, they departed for Madla village in Bogura's Shajahanpur upazila in an ambulance carrying the coffin.
Shahed Ahmed was killed on October 10 during an armed Houthi attack at the King Khalid International Airport. Hailing from Madla village in Bogura's Shajahanpur upazila, he was the son of expatriate worker Rafikul Islam and homemaker Shahera বেগম. He leaves behind his wife and two young sons, Kawsar (11) and Abdullah (6).
Shahed worked as a plumber for a Jeddah-based project under a Saudi contracting firm and held a legal work permit (Iqama). He was returning to his workplace in Jeddah via Riyadh after spending a one-month leave in Bangladesh. He was present at the Riyadh airport during the time of the attack, which claimed the lives of two Bangladeshi nationals. The other victim was Nasrullah Badorpuri, a resident of Nangalkot upazila in Cumilla.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam told reporters at the airport that three Bangladeshis have been killed in missile attacks in Saudi Arabia over the past month. Among them, only Shahed's body has arrived today, while efforts are underway to repatriate the remains of the other victims as quickly as possible.
