Three European countries have repatriated 35 Bangladeshi nationals. Of the total returnees, 19 arrived from Italy, 10 from Greece, and six from Cyprus.
According to immigration police and airport sources, the 35 individuals landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:15 am on Friday aboard a chartered special flight, designated as PVG 9445.
With support from Civil Aviation Security and the Expatriate Welfare Desk at the airport, the Migration Programme of BRAC provided the returnees with emergency assistance, counselling, and financial aid to help them safely return to their respective homes. Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Union were also present at the airport during their arrival.
Speaking to Chitra Post regarding the repatriation, Shariful Hasan, associate director of the BRAC Migration Programme and the BRAC Youth Platform, confirmed that the 19 individuals from Italy, 10 from Greece, and six from Cyprus came back on the special flight.
He noted that all returnees received immediate assistance at the airport through the Prottasha-2 project, which is jointly funded by the European Union and BRAC. They will subsequently be provided with further counselling, specialized training, and financial assistance to support their reintegration.
Back in 2017, the Bangladesh government signed standard operating procedure (SOP) agreements with various European countries to streamline and facilitate the repatriation of undocumented or irregular Bangladeshi migrants from Europe.
