Law enforcement authorities in Khulna have apprehended an individual on charges of illegal horse slaughter and the subsequent sale of horse meat. Acting on a tip-off, the operation led to the seizure of approximately 120 kilograms of horse meat. During preliminary questioning, the suspect admitted to operating a clandestine business where horses were slaughtered and the meat was sold to unsuspecting consumers, often mislabeled as beef.
The consumption of horse meat is not a standard practice in the region and poses significant public health risks. Meat processed in unhygienic conditions, such as those found in this case, is highly susceptible to contamination and the spread of pathogens. Local residents had long suspected the existence of a syndicate operating in the area, which had caused widespread concern regarding food safety and public health standards.
Officials involved in the raid confirmed that samples of the seized meat have been sent to a laboratory for forensic analysis. A case has been filed against the suspect, and investigations are underway to identify other members of the syndicate and determine the distribution network through which the meat was being sold.
Concerned citizens in Khulna have called for increased monitoring of local meat markets to ensure quality and safety. They emphasized that such fraudulent practices, driven by the greed for profit, pose a severe threat to public health and demand stringent legal consequences for those involved.
Law enforcement agencies have reiterated their commitment to protecting public health through continued vigilance. Authorities have warned that any trader found engaging in the adulteration of food products will face severe legal repercussions. The suspect is currently in custody and will be presented before the court, where authorities intend to seek maximum penalties under the prevailing laws.
