A major burglary has been reported in the Sebasangha area of Narsingdi, where a businessman named Sukhan Chowdhury returned from his village after the Durga Puja holidays to find his apartment ransacked. The thieves broke into his cupboard and stole 5 million Taka, which he had saved to establish a dyeing factory, along with 8 bhori of gold jewelry belonging to his wife. The incident has left the family devastated and has caused significant concern among local residents.
Sukhan Chowdhury, originally from Guhiyala village in Netrokona's Barhatta upazila, has been living in a rented apartment on the second floor of a seven-story building in Narsingdi for the past five years. He works at a dyeing factory in Shekherchar. To fulfill his long-cherished dream of owning his own factory, he had sold his ancestral land and kept the proceeds of 5 million Taka in his apartment, intending to finalize a business deal.
According to the details provided, the family left for their village last Sunday to celebrate Durga Puja. Upon returning on Friday night, they found that the main door lock was jammed. After forcing the door open, they discovered that the entire apartment had been ransacked and the cupboard broken into. It is estimated that the theft occurred at some point during their six-day absence.
Sukhan's wife, Purabi Pandit, expressed their shock, noting that they became suspicious the moment they struggled to open the door. Upon entering and seeing the state of the apartment, they realized they had been robbed of their life savings. The family is currently in a state of deep distress following the loss of their capital.
Following the incident, Sukhan Chowdhury filed a formal complaint with the Narsingdi Model Police Station on Friday night. Law enforcement officials have visited the scene to collect evidence and initiate an investigation. Local residents have expressed their concern and are demanding increased security measures in the area. The police have assured that they are actively investigating the case and are working to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
