In a brazen daylight robbery, miscreants snatched BDT 500,000 from a high-ranking official of Bangladesh Bank in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur district. The victim, who serves as an additional director at the central bank, was intercepted on the busy Dhaka-Tangail highway shortly after withdrawing the cash from a local bank branch.

Eyewitness and victim testimonies reveal that a white private car suddenly pulled up alongside their rickshaw from behind, blocking its path. One of the occupants inside the vehicle reached out and forcibly snatched the bag containing the cash. The perpetrators then sped away toward Tangail within seconds, leaving the victims stunned.

Following the incident, the central bank official immediately dialed the national emergency hotline to report the crime. Although police response was prompted, the miscreants managed to escape before law enforcement units could arrive at the scene. Local law enforcement authorities have initiated an investigation, reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage along the highway to identify the vehicle and the culprits involved. The incident has raised fresh concerns regarding public safety and the security of citizens carrying cash from financial institutions along major transit corridors, prompting police to step up patrolling and intelligence gathering in the area.
