Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh has expressed grave concern over the recent surge in reports of moral misconduct and student harassment by teachers across various educational institutions in the country. In a joint statement, the organization's top leadership emphasized that such unethical behavior within academic spaces is unacceptable and demands uncompromising institutional and legal consequences for the perpetrators.
Amir Allama Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari and Secretary General Allama Sajedur Rahman stated that educational institutions are meant to be sanctuaries of learning, and incidents of moral failure by educators are deeply shameful for the nation. They asserted that there should be no leniency or compromise in dealing with these cases, calling for exemplary punishment to deter future misconduct.
Furthermore, the organization cautioned against vigilantism, stating that while student harassment is intolerable, taking the law into one's own hands is also not the solution. They urged for a fair and impartial administrative investigation into such incidents to ensure that the actual culprits are brought to justice through the proper legal framework.
Highlighting proactive measures, the statement referenced the recent directives issued by 'Al-Haiatul Ulya Lil-Jamiatil Qawmia Bangladesh', the highest authority for Qawmi madrasas. On September 19, the authority mandated the formation or activation of student protection committees in every madrasa. These committees are tasked with investigating any allegations of misconduct or harassment and submitting reports within a maximum of seven working days.
Additionally, the organization has called upon madrasa boards to strengthen their monitoring cells and establish hotlines for students to report grievances. Hefazat-e-Islam believes that institutional accountability and rigorous oversight are essential to restoring discipline in the academic environment. They have urged all school and madrasa authorities to strictly adhere to government and board directives, emphasizing that ensuring a safe environment for students is an urgent national priority.
