A head teacher of a residential madrasah in Satkhira's Ashashuni upazila has been arrested by police on charges of sexually harassing a 14-year-old student. The accused educator, identified as Mohammad Moklesur Rahman (40), was apprehended on Thursday from the Paran Daha area of Satkhira Sadar upazila following a targeted operation utilizing information technology. The arrest comes in the wake of a formal case filed by the victim's father at the local police station.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the victim was enrolled in the Hifz department of the madrasah and resided in the institution's boarding facility. The complaint details that the head teacher frequently subjected the young student to inappropriate advances. When the student consistently refused to comply with his unethical demands, he allegedly resorted to harassment and physical abuse. Furthermore, the accused reportedly forced the boy to massage his hands and limbs late at night inside his private room on multiple occasions.
The situation escalated on the morning of October 21 when the student was intercepted by the head teacher while returning from the boarding kitchen after delivering food supplies. Inside the teacher's private quarters, the student was subjected to severe sexual abuse. When the terrified boy attempted to scream, the teacher forcefully muffled his cries and threatened him with dire consequences if he disclosed the incident to anyone. Traumatized and physically distressed, the student eventually returned home and narrated the ordeal to his parents.
Following the disclosure, the boy began feeling unwell due to the psychological and physical trauma, prompting his family to rush him to the Ashashuni Upazila Health Complex for primary medical care. Deeply shocked by the incident, the victim's father formally lodged a criminal complaint at the Ashashuni police station on Thursday, accusing the teacher of heinous misconduct against a minor under his care.
Ashashuni Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahidur Rahman stated that law enforcement initiated an immediate manhunt following the registration of the case. Through digital tracking and intelligence support, a dedicated police team successfully located and arrested the fugitive teacher after a three-hour operation in the Satkhira Sadar area. Legal procedures are currently underway to present the accused before the court.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation among local residents and guardians, who have raised serious concerns regarding the safety and security of children in residential educational institutions. Community leaders have demanded swift and exemplary punishment for the accused to deter such deplorable acts in the future, while police assure that a comprehensive investigation is ongoing.
