Four members of a volunteer organization lost their lives and two others sustained critical injuries in a devastating road collision in Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur. The tragic incident took place on the Dhaka-Khulna highway when a speeding passenger bus rammed into an ambulance carrying the volunteers back to Magura following a training program.
According to local police and eyewitness accounts, the accident occurred around 3:15 PM near the Arkandi bridge in Naopara union of Madhukhali. A Dhaka-bound passenger bus belonging to Kingfisher Paribahan, coming from Satkhira, lost control or miscalculated and crashed head-on into the Magura-bound ambulance. The impact was so severe that the ambulance was mangled beyond recognition, resulting in three fatalities right at the scene.
Emergency responders and locals rushed to the site to assist the victims. They were immediately transported to the Madhukhali Upazila Health Complex. The attending physicians declared three of them dead on arrival and referred the remaining critically injured passengers to the Faridpur Medical College Hospital. Tragically, one more individual succumbed to their injuries after reaching the medical college hospital, raising the death toll to four.
The victims have been identified as residents of Magura, including Rabby Hasan, Oishy, Atiq, and Sagar Biswas. Another injured volunteer, Riya, is currently receiving medical attention. Representatives of 'Volunteer for Bangladesh' explained that their Magura team had traveled to Faridpur for an official training session. While returning, failing to secure regular public transport at the bus terminal, they had rented the ambulance to travel back home safely, unaware of the impending tragedy.
Local authorities have initiated an investigation into the collision and efforts are underway to apprehend the bus driver responsible for the reckless driving. The untimely demise of these active young volunteers has cast a profound shadow of grief over their families, friends, and the entire community in Magura, sparking renewed calls for stricter traffic enforcement on major national highways.
