In the wake of surprise inspections by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has issued four urgent directives for educational institutions across the capital and the country, emphasizing dengue prevention, cleanliness, and comprehensive preparedness.
Marking the matter as 'most urgent,' DSHE communicated these instructions to principals, headteachers, and relevant authorities on Tuesday. The directive letter noted that as part of ongoing inspections across various hospitals, educational institutions, and residential areas of government officials in the capital, the Prime Minister recently made unannounced visits to several establishments, including Rajuk Uttara Model College, Mirpur Cantonment Public School and College, and Government Bangla College.
In light of these visits, heads of all educational institutions in Dhaka and across the country have been instructed to strictly follow a four-point directive to ensure a clean, disciplined, and healthy environment within their respective campuses.
The four directives mandate that classrooms, offices, corridors, rooftops, restrooms, courtyards, and surrounding areas must be cleaned regularly. Authorities must check for and promptly remove any stagnant water, destroying mosquito breeding grounds to implement effective measures against dengue. Institutions are also required to conduct dengue awareness campaigns by actively involving teachers, students, and staff. Finally, schools and colleges must ensure overall institutional discipline, a hygienic environment, and necessary administrative readiness.
