A suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast occurred near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Krishna Ghati sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Monday, triggering a significant security alert. According to official reports, the explosion resulted in casualties, although the exact number of fatalities or injuries remains unconfirmed. The blast reportedly took place in the Satwal-Naki area near the zero line, involving a group of individuals moving on the Pakistan-administered side of the LoC.
Security officials are currently working to determine the identity of those affected by the blast. It remains unclear whether the group consisted of suspected terrorists attempting to infiltrate the border or Pakistani security personnel patrolling the area. In response to the incident, Indian security forces have sounded a high alert across the sector, significantly increasing surveillance along the border to prevent any potential security breaches or retaliatory actions.
In a separate but related development, Indian Army troops detected two rusted landmines near the border fence in the Basoni area of the Mendhar sector on Monday. The devices were discovered during routine track construction work in the morning and afternoon. Army experts subsequently neutralized both devices through controlled explosions. Officials noted that approximately a dozen such landmines have been recovered and defused in the region over the past week.
Army sources explained that forward areas along the LoC are heavily mined as part of an established anti-infiltration system. However, heavy rainfall and soil erosion often cause these legacy mines to shift from their original positions, surfacing in areas where they pose a significant risk to movement. While the discovery of the landmines in Mendhar coincides with the heightened security measures following the IED blast in Krishna Ghati, officials have not yet established a direct link between the two events.
Security forces have intensified their vigilance along the entire stretch of the LoC as they continue to assess the situation. The military remains on high alert, ensuring that the border remains secure while monitoring for any further suspicious activity in the aftermath of Monday’s developments.
