It was the day before Eid in 2012 when our father tragically died in a road accident. At home, there were just the three of us siblings and our mother. I had just appeared for my intermediate examinations, while my two younger sisters were preparing for their SSC exams and reading in the second grade, respectively.

This story is not really about us; it is about our mother. She was only around 38 or 39 years old at the time. Armed with little more than the meager pension of our father—who was a government employee—and her three children, she embarked on a remarkably difficult journey to restart our lives from scratch.

Recalling those days brings countless memories vividly to life. We often reflect on our father’s last words, which he had told his sector commander: 'Sir, please ask my wife to look after my children.' Taking those words as her guiding mantra, our mother navigated all these arduous years. Despite facing harsh criticisms and discouragement from many people around her, she never gave up, steering our lives forward with grace and unwavering determination.

Today, her eldest daughter has completed her Master's and is now a dedicated homemaker in Dhaka. Though her husband suggested she pursue a career, she chose to focus entirely on her two children and household. Her husband holds a high-ranking position at a renowned private company in Bangladesh.

The younger daughter, who was studying at the university, has also been happily married. Her husband works as an officer in a public bank in Bangladesh. Finally, as for the eldest son—myself—I completed my studies in Textile Engineering and am currently working in China as the South Asian Regional Manager for a multinational corporation.
