Government employees across the country are set to receive increased salaries starting this month as the implementation of the new national pay scale moves forward. The Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance issued a formal notification on Monday, confirming that the salary hike applies to personnel across all ministries, departments, and autonomous institutions.
Under the newly introduced pay structure, the minimum basic salary has been set at Tk 20,000, while the maximum ceiling reaches Tk 156,000. Although the pay scale was officially effective from July 1, the government opted for a phased implementation strategy to manage the transition effectively. This month marks the commencement of the salary disbursement under the revised rates.
Regarding allowances, the government has decided to maintain the status quo for the time being. According to the official notification, allowances will continue to be paid at the rates applicable as of June 30. This arrangement will remain in effect until a further order is issued by the authorities. The government had previously indicated during the issuance of the pay and allowances order on September 19 that the integration of new allowances would be handled in subsequent stages.
The government's broader plan aims to fully implement the new salary and allowance structure over the 2026–27 fiscal period. By staggering the implementation, the administration intends to balance the financial burden on the national exchequer while ensuring that employees receive the benefits of the revised pay scale in a sustainable manner.
This development is viewed as a significant step toward adjusting the income of public servants in line with current economic conditions and inflationary pressures. While the delay in revising allowances may be noted by some, the increase in basic salary is expected to provide immediate relief and improved financial stability for the workforce.
As the country moves toward the full realization of the 2026 pay order, the government is expected to continue monitoring the fiscal impact. For now, the focus remains on the successful rollout of the increased basic salaries, which serves as a major milestone for the public sector workforce.
