The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a forecast indicating a significant increase in rainfall intensity across the country starting from October 28. This shift in weather patterns is primarily driven by the formation of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to bring widespread rain, ranging from moderate to heavy, across various regions.
According to the latest meteorological reports, while the sky remains partially cloudy, conditions are expected to deteriorate over the coming days. The low-pressure system has the potential to intensify into a depression, which could lead to increased wind speeds and necessitate the issuance of warning signals for maritime ports. This change in weather is also expected to bring a slight drop in temperatures, providing relief from the recent humid conditions.
Coastal districts and the southern regions of the country are expected to bear the brunt of the rainfall. Areas within the Chattogram, Barishal, and Khulna divisions are particularly vulnerable to heavy downpours, which may lead to temporary waterlogging in low-lying regions. Meanwhile, the Dhaka, Rajshahi, and Rangpur divisions are also likely to experience light to moderate showers. The Department of Agricultural Extension has advised farmers to take necessary precautions to protect their crops from potential damage caused by excessive water.
Maritime safety has become a priority, with the weather office advising fishing boats and trawlers currently in the Bay of Bengal to remain near the coast and exercise extreme caution. Given the potential for rough seas, fishermen have been urged to return to safe shelters immediately. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of maritime traffic.
While the rain is expected to provide relief from the prolonged heatwave, urban residents are cautioned about potential waterlogging and traffic disruptions. The meteorological department will continue to provide regular updates, and the public is encouraged to stay informed through official bulletins. The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has instructed local administrations to remain vigilant and prepared to respond to any emergencies that may arise due to the changing weather conditions.
