A startling revelation has emerged regarding the attempted robbery at the Krishi Bank Sohagi Bazar branch in Ishwarganj, Mymensingh. The primary suspect, Kawsar Ahmed, has confessed in court that the bank's own security guard, Mazharul Islam, was a key accomplice in the failed heist. The confession was recorded on Friday evening before Senior Judicial Magistrate Asma Akter.
According to Kawsar's testimony, the robbery was a calculated plot. The plan involved tying up the security guard, Mazharul, to create a facade of a break-in while they broke into the vault. However, the plan collapsed when Mazharul was accidentally injured during the process of being tied up. The injury caused a disruption that forced the perpetrators to abandon the attempt. Following the confession, police apprehended Mazharul Islam on Saturday morning from the Sohagi Bazar area.
Investigations reveal that Kawsar, an electrician by trade, had been seeking a loan of approximately 200,000 BDT from the bank. Frustrated by the rejection of his loan application, he allegedly decided to rob the institution. The incident occurred around 3:30 AM on Wednesday night. A case was subsequently filed by bank official Md. Nazmul Haque at the local police station.
Mazharul Islam had been working as a temporary security guard at the branch for nearly three years. He is a resident of Bairati village in the Sohagi Union. Police Inspector PSM Mostashinur Rahman confirmed the development, noting that the suspect's statement has implicated two other individuals, and law enforcement is currently conducting operations to apprehend them.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising serious concerns regarding internal security protocols at financial institutions. The involvement of a staff member in a robbery attempt highlights significant vulnerabilities. Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation is underway and that all individuals involved will be brought to justice under the law.
