In a decisive move to protect natural resources, the local administration has demolished a luxury resort constructed illegally on encroached government land and hills in the popular tourist hub of Inani, Cox's Bazar. The resort, valued at approximately sixty million taka, was targeted during a joint eviction drive led by the district administration and the forest department. Authorities stated that a powerful faction had illegally occupied the public property for commercial purposes, severely violating environmental regulations.
According to local sources, the construction of the resort involved cutting hills and occupying sandy areas, posing a serious threat to the local ecosystem and biodiversity. Environmental activists had long protested against the illegal encroachment, prompting the administration to act in alignment with legal frameworks and directives. During the operation, heavy machinery and bulldozers were deployed to dismantle the resort's cottages, main structures, and auxiliary buildings completely.
The executive magistrate leading the operation emphasized that no unauthorized structures would be allowed on public land and reserved forests. The local administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward land grabbers and environmental violators. A heavy contingent of police and law enforcement personnel accompanied the eviction team to ensure peace and prevent any resistance from vested interests.
While the resort owners claimed to possess valid documentation, officials clarified that the claims lacked legal legitimacy, confirming the entire plot was illegally seized. Authorities vowed to continue such drives to safeguard forested areas and hill tracts, adding that legal cases are being prepared against the encroachers.
Environmentalists and local civil society groups have lauded the administration's prompt action, expressing hope that this will serve as a strong deterrent against hill cutting and land grabbing in Inani and surrounding regions. Experts reiterate that strict enforcement of the law and constant vigilance are imperative to preserve the natural scenic beauty of premier tourist destinations in the country.
