In a robust and comprehensive effort to tighten security and eradicate criminal activities across the capital, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) executed a widespread anti-crime drive over the past 24 hours. The coordinated raids, conducted across various neighborhoods and jurisdictions in Dhaka, resulted in the apprehension of 662 individuals involved in diverse offenses. According to the Media and Public Relations Division of the DMP, the operation targeted habitual offenders, fugitives with arrest warrants, drug peddlers, and individuals linked to street crimes.
Alongside the mass arrests, law enforcement authorities registered 43 formal cases against the detained suspects under various penal provisions. The legal proceedings for forwarding the accused to the judicial courts are currently underway as per standard operating procedures. Police headquarters confirmed that the continuous crackdown is part of a broader strategy to maintain public safety, curb urban crime rates, and ensure the rule of law prevails throughout the metropolitan area.
In recent weeks, the DMP has significantly intensified its surveillance, intelligence-gathering, and mobile patrols to combat rising concerns regarding theft, mugging, narcotics trafficking, and localized gang violence. Checkpoints have been strategically set up at major intersections and entry points into the city, making it exceedingly difficult for criminal elements to operate with impunity or evade justice. These measures are designed to preemptively disrupt illicit plots and instill a sense of security among residents, business owners, and commuters.
Senior police officials emphasized that such proactive operations are crucial for neutralizing threats before they escalate into major law and order issues. The leadership has maintained a zero-tolerance policy toward violent crime and public disorder. While these intensive drives have yielded substantial results in terms of rounding up wanted felons, field commanders have also been strictly instructed to exercise professional diligence, ensuring that innocent citizens are not unjustly harassed or inconvenienced during the identification and verification processes.
Community leaders and security analysts have largely welcomed the police initiative, noting that sustained pressure on criminal networks is essential for urban stability. However, they also underscored the importance of transparency, community policing, and swift judicial processing to ensure long-term deterrence. The DMP reiterated its commitment to keeping Dhaka safe, urging citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious behavior or unlawful activities through emergency helplines.
