Parents are considered the greatest blessing for a child in this world, and their demise creates the deepest void in a person's life. Once a human being passes away, all doors to performing good deeds or earning virtues are permanently closed.

In the life of the grave, a deceased person can no longer perform even a single unit of prayer (rak'ah) nor give even a modest charity for themselves. At that point, the departed soul becomes completely helpless, eagerly awaiting prayers from the living. In Islam, this act of transferring rewards to the deceased is known as 'Isale Sawab'. Below are the three most beneficial and effective deeds for deceased parents.

1. Regular Seeking of Forgiveness (Istighfar)

The greatest and most directly beneficial act a child can perform for their parents is seeking forgiveness from Allah on their behalf. When a child prays for their parents, it is accepted without hindrance, elevating their status in the grave.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "A person's status in Paradise will be raised unexpectedly, and he will ask in astonishment, 'O Allah, how did I attain this?' It will be said to him, 'Because of your child's seeking forgiveness (Istighfar) for you.'" (Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 3660)

Engaging in continuous charity (Sadaqah Jariyah)—such as building a mosque, arranging water supplies, donating to religious institutions, or planting trees—on behalf of deceased parents ensures that the rewards continuously reach their graves.

In the Holy Quran, Allah Himself has taught the specific language for this parental prayer: "Rabbir hamhuma kama rabbayani saghehra" (My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small). (Surah Al-Isra, Verse: 24). Reciting this supplication regularly after daily prayers or any act of worship is an essential duty for every dutiful child.
