In a proactive move to combat the rising threat of dengue fever and eradicate mosquito breeding grounds, top administrative officials have taken to the field. The Deputy Commissioner (DC) and the Superintendent of Police (SP) personally participated in a cleanup drive, clearing the police station's pond and surrounding areas of debris and water hyacinths. This unique initiative has resonated deeply with the local community, setting a strong example of administrative leadership.
It is rare to see high-ranking government officials engaging in manual labor outside of their typical administrative duties. However, given the severity of the current dengue outbreak, they chose to lead by example. By physically cleaning the pond, they sent a clear message that dengue prevention requires a collective effort rather than relying solely on specific departments or municipal workers.
According to local sources, the administration has adopted a strict stance as dengue cases continue to rise. Special drives are being conducted to destroy mosquito larvae in public areas, government office premises, and water bodies. The direct involvement of the DC and SP is expected to motivate field-level staff to perform their duties with greater diligence and accountability.
Following the cleanup, the officials urged the public to take responsibility for their own surroundings. They emphasized that dengue cannot be eradicated through government efforts alone; every citizen must ensure their homes and neighborhoods remain clean. Stagnant water in flower pots, coconut shells, or discarded containers serves as the primary breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes, and these must be cleared regularly.
The pond at the police station, once cluttered, is now significantly cleaner, which will help curb mosquito proliferation. The administration has confirmed that these special cleanup drives will continue until the dengue situation is brought under control. Simultaneously, efforts to spray mosquito repellent in coordination with the municipality and health departments have been intensified.
Local residents have welcomed this initiative, noting that the participation of top officials serves as a powerful motivator for the public to adhere to health guidelines. This active role played by the administration is expected to be a crucial factor in managing the dengue crisis in the coming days.
