In an unusual incident in Narail Sadar upazila, a 62-year-old man named Golam Rabbani was bitten by a cobra while attempting to show snake tricks to locals. Rabbani, a farmer by profession who passionately catches snakes and exhibits them as a hobby, faced this dramatic situation in the Borikhali area of Auria union. The event has drawn significant attention from local residents due to the sheer audacity of carrying a live venomous snake to the hospital.
According to local accounts, the incident unfolded when members of Rabbani's neighbor Hannan Khan's household discovered two cobras inside their kitchen. Panicked by the reptiles, they immediately summoned Rabbani to handle the situation. Before he could arrive, bystanders had already killed one of the snakes. However, Rabbani successfully captured the second snake alive and secured it inside a bag.
Instead of immediately releasing or containing the snake safely, Rabbani took the bag to a nearby local shop and began exhibiting the reptile to curious onlookers. Witnesses noted that he wanted to entertain the crowd with the snake's movements. While casually chewing betel leaf at the shop, he continued to display the snake to the gathering villagers.
The situation took a dangerous turn when Rabbani attempted to put the snake back into the bag after the impromptu show. Due to a momentary lapse in concentration, the snake bit his hand. Displaying remarkable composure despite the venomous bite, he placed the snake back into the bag and traveled directly to the Narail District Hospital for medical intervention.
Upon arriving at the hospital holding the bag containing the live snake, Rabbani caused momentary panic among medical staff and fellow patients. Recalling the incident from his hospital bed, he explained how the mishap occurred while handling the reptile after the village show. Observing the overwhelming fear among people at the hospital, he eventually had the snake sent back to his home. Attending physicians confirmed that he received timely medical care and is currently out of danger.
