Bilal Erdoğan, chairman of the board of trustees of the Ilim Yayma Foundation, has issued a strong call for long-term support for Palestinian entrepreneurs and businesspeople. Speaking at the 'Palestine Breakfast' event, held as part of the Halal Forum in London, Erdoğan argued that while humanitarian aid is crucial, it must be complemented by strategic economic initiatives to help Palestinians sustain activity within their own homeland.
Erdoğan emphasized that strengthening the economic position of Palestinians is essential for their empowerment as individuals and citizens. By enabling them to establish businesses and generate income locally, the international community can foster a more sustainable form of solidarity. He noted that while Türkiye and the United Kingdom have been active in providing humanitarian relief, there is an urgent need to transition toward long-term development models that allow for productive economic activity.
Furthermore, Erdoğan challenged the conventional understanding of the 'halal economy,' arguing that it should not be confined to narrow definitions such as halal food or interest-free finance. Instead, he proposed a comprehensive approach that encompasses ethical business practices, workers' rights, environmental responsibility, and animal welfare. He stressed that all economic activities should be conducted in alignment with broader moral and ethical principles.
He expressed optimism that the Halal Forum would serve as a platform to promote this wider international understanding of the halal economy. Although he acknowledged that the initiative is still in its early stages, he believes that with consistent effort and strategic focus, it could have a significant and growing impact over time. By integrating economic development with ethical standards, he hopes to create a more resilient and empowered future for Palestinian entrepreneurs, ultimately contributing to the stability and prosperity of their society.
