Jung Su-bin, a rising star in the professional women's billiards circuit (LPBA), has achieved her first-ever professional victory. In a thrilling final match held on the 11th, Jung defeated veteran player Lee Mi-rae, who holds five career titles, by executing a series of bold bank shots, marking a significant milestone in her four-year professional career.
Jung's journey into the world of professional billiards is nothing short of cinematic. In 2019, while studying statistics in college, she was asked by a friend to cover a part-time shift at a local pool hall for just one week. What began as a simple favor turned into a life-changing experience. Captivated by the sport, she began to take it seriously, eventually meeting her partner, professional billiards player Han Ji-seung, who helped her refine her skills.
Her dedication was evident in her rigorous training regimen, which involved practicing for over 10 hours a day. This commitment paid off when she made her professional debut in 2022, just 18 months after picking up a cue for the first time. Since then, she has consistently improved her average, and after securing a runner-up finish this past February, she promised her fans a victory—a promise she finally fulfilled this week.
Following her victory, Jung expressed her deep gratitude to her partner, Han Ji-seung, for his coaching and support. She also shared a heartfelt message for the friend who had asked her to cover that fateful part-time shift seven years ago, stating, "Because you asked me to cover that shift, I started playing billiards, and thanks to you, I won this title."
For Jung, this victory is more than just a trophy; it is a turning point in her life. She has expressed her determination to move beyond this single win and establish herself as a consistent and formidable force in the professional billiards scene. Her story serves as an inspiring example of how a chance encounter, combined with relentless hard work and passion, can lead to remarkable success.
