A concerning incident of gunfire occurred in the Moghbazar area of Dhaka on Saturday morning, targeting the private vehicle of renowned Bangladeshi singer Asif Akbar. The incident took place around 5:30 am in front of the Bishal Centre. Fortunately, the singer was not inside the car at the time of the attack, and no injuries or casualties have been reported.
Mohammad Asaduzzaman, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Hatirjheel Police Station, confirmed the details of the incident. According to police reports, Asif Akbar maintains a personal office in the Moghbazar vicinity, where his vehicle was parked at the time. Unidentified assailants approached the vehicle in the early hours, fired shots, and fled the scene immediately.
Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation into the matter. The police are currently in the process of collecting and reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the individuals responsible for the attack. As of now, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities are working to determine whether this was a targeted act of intimidation or a random incident.
Despite attempts to reach the artist for comment regarding the security breach, there has been no immediate response from his side. The incident has caused significant alarm among local residents, given the brazen nature of the attack in a central part of the capital.
Hatirjheel police have assured the public that necessary legal actions are being taken. Multiple police units are actively working to track down the suspects. While the investigation is in its preliminary stages, officials have emphasized that they are prioritizing the case to ensure the safety of the artist and to maintain law and order in the area. Further updates are expected as the police continue their forensic analysis of the crime scene.
