Current and former students of the historic Kushtia Zilla School have taken a firm stand against the usage of their school playground for political purposes. Organizing a human chain, a mass signature campaign, and submitting a formal memorandum to the district administration, the school community voiced deep concerns over preserving the academic sanctity of the institution.
Around noon on Monday, over a hundred students assembled near the main entrance along the Kushtia-Jhenaidah highway. Carrying placards with messages demanding the protection of their educational environment, the demonstrators asserted that historical school grounds should remain exclusively dedicated to sports and academic development rather than political gatherings.
The protest stems from an upcoming closing rally of a multi-party alliance's scheduled long-march, which is set to travel from Dhaka through Gopalganj, Khulna, and Jessore before reaching Kushtia. Massive billboards and promotional banners announcing the Saturday afternoon rally have already been installed near the school's perimeter, signaling active preparations by political organizers.
Following the human chain, a student delegation submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, requesting an immediate prohibition of political programs on the campus now and in the future. Meanwhile, leaders of the political coalition met with the district administration later in the afternoon, confirming their intent to proceed with the scheduled assembly while requesting security support to maintain public order.
Local guardians and educators have expressed solidarity with the students' movement, emphasizing that frequent political programs disrupt the peaceful academic atmosphere and damage sports infrastructure. Community leaders urged the authorities to establish clear guidelines safeguarding educational premises nationwide from non-academic activities.
