In a significant move to elevate safety standards within the capital's public transport network, the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has announced plans to install advanced security equipment at metro rail stations. The initiative includes the deployment of archway metal detectors and luggage scanners, aimed at preventing untoward incidents and ensuring a secure environment for thousands of daily commuters.
According to official sources, the decision to procure these security tools is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the overall security architecture of the metro rail system. On October 19, Mohammad Asaduzzaman, the General Manager (Store and Procurement) of DMTCL, issued an online tender inviting eligible firms to participate in the procurement process. Interested parties are required to submit their e-tenders through the official National e-Government Procurement (e-GP) portal.
Beyond the installation of new security hardware, the authority is also prioritizing the long-term maintenance of the existing infrastructure. The tender notice explicitly includes an Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) for critical systems at the MRT Line-6 depot. This covers the maintenance of low-voltage (LV) systems, diesel generator (DG) sets, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units, ventilation systems, and general electrical works, ensuring the operational longevity of the metro rail's electrical department.
Project officials emphasized that the metro rail, being a high-capacity and sensitive public transport system, requires robust security protocols. The introduction of archway detectors and luggage scanners will streamline the screening process, allowing security personnel to effectively monitor passengers and prevent the entry of prohibited or hazardous items into the station premises.
Detailed guidelines and further information regarding the tender are available on the National e-GP portal. Prospective bidders can purchase the tender documents on November 11, 2026, between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm. This infrastructure upgrade marks a pivotal step in modernizing Dhaka's transit security, promising a safer and more reliable commuting experience for the public.
