The warehouse and central office of AJR Courier Service in the capital's Hazaribagh area came under a violent attack on Tuesday evening, where miscreants vandalized the property, looted goods worth hundreds of thousands of taka, and carted away CCTV equipment after claiming that the land rent must now be paid to top-listed criminal Sanjidul Islam Iman.
The incident took place at around 6:30 PM at the company's office adjacent to Sikder Medical College. Mosharraf Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hazaribagh Police Station, confirmed the incident to Chitra Post.
Describing the sequence of events, officials of AJR Group stated that a crowd of over a hundred people gathered in front of the office in the evening. Initially, they disabled the CCTV cameras of surrounding residential buildings. Subsequently, a gang of masked and helmeted assailants scaled the boundary wall and threatened the security guards. Breaking into the warehouse, they disconnected and removed the surveillance cameras and DVR (Digital Video Recorder) units. Before fleeing, the attackers rampaged through the office furniture and looted several laptops.
Company officials informed that AJR Courier Service had rented the land through a formal agreement with the Sikder Group two years ago, subsequently establishing their primary warehouse and corporate office on the premises. Per the contractual terms, they had been regularly paying rent to the Sikder Group.
Citing the attackers, AJR officials further stated that the miscreants claimed they had spoken with the owners of Sikder Group and that all future land rent must be directed to top criminal Iman. They explicitly warned the security personnel that failure to comply with the rent demand would result in the business being shut down permanently. The facility typically dispatches around 400 vehicles daily to transport goods across the country, but all operational activities have remained suspended following the attack.
