Two individuals were apprehended by law enforcement officers at a routine police checkpoint in the Mirpur area of Dhaka after being found in possession of a firearm. The suspects were intercepted while traveling through the area, and a subsequent search of their belongings led to the discovery of a pistol and ammunition.
According to preliminary reports, the individuals were riding a motorcycle when they were signaled to stop by police personnel stationed at the checkpoint. Their suspicious behavior during the initial questioning prompted officers to conduct a thorough search, which resulted in the recovery of the weapon. Both individuals were immediately taken into custody and transported to the local police station for further questioning.
Law enforcement officials have confirmed that legal proceedings under the Arms Act are currently underway. Investigators are working to determine the origin of the firearm and whether the suspects intended to commit any criminal activities within the Mirpur area. Authorities are also cross-referencing the suspects' identities with existing criminal databases to check for prior records.
This incident highlights the effectiveness of the increased security measures implemented by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police across the capital. Routine checkpoints have been intensified in high-risk areas to curb criminal activities and ensure public safety. The police remain vigilant, and officials have stated that the suspects will be interrogated to uncover any potential links to larger criminal networks.
While the identities of the suspects have not been disclosed to the public to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation, police have indicated that they will be presented before the court shortly. A remand application may be filed to facilitate deeper questioning. Following this arrest, security patrols in and around Mirpur have been further strengthened to prevent any untoward incidents.
