A local social youth organization recently stepped forward to support three impoverished families who lost their homes and belongings in a devastating fire in Karimganj upazila of Kishoreganj district. Late at night on October 25, a dedicated team of volunteers and advisors visited the Kandail Bakpara area in Karimganj to provide emergency financial assistance to the fire victims, including farmer Golam Mia, scrap paper seller Nure Alam, and driver Saiful Islam. The humanitarian initiative was financially backed and sponsored by prominent social worker and organization advisor Md. Zakaria.
The tragic incident occurred on the afternoon of October 22 when an electrical short circuit sparked a fire in the homestead of farmer Golam Mia. The flames rapidly spread to adjacent houses belonging to scrap paper seller Nure Alam and driver Saiful Islam, reducing their tin-shed homes, cash savings, and essential household goods to ashes. According to the affected families, the sudden blaze caused an estimated loss of 15 to 20 lakh taka, leaving them utterly destitute and struggling to survive.
During the distribution of the financial aid, several prominent figures of the youth organization were present, including advisor and local journalist Tafsilul Aziz, advisor Md. Al Amin, and active members Abdul Kader, Azharul Islam, Md. Rubel, Saju Ashraf, Hanif Mia, and Chan Mia. They spent time consoling the distressed family members and assuring them of continuous support during their hard times. This compassionate gesture by the young volunteers has garnered immense praise from locals in the area.
While handing over the cash assistance, social worker Md. Zakaria remarked that the unexpected fire had left the three families in an extremely vulnerable position. He noted that as a primary response to their urgent plight, the organization provided a total of 30,000 taka, distributing 10,000 taka to each affected family. However, he acknowledged that this amount is negligible compared to the massive scale of destruction the families suffered.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Zakaria earnestly appealed to affluent individuals in society and local administrative authorities to step forward and extend generous support for the rehabilitation of these helpless families. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to standing beside marginalized and distressed people in future crises, setting a bright example of community solidarity and social responsibility.
