In a decisive crackdown against illegal cross-border activities, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has conducted a series of targeted operations in the Kurigram border region, successfully seizing various smuggled goods valued at over 1.5 million taka. This operation underscores the paramilitary force's unwavering commitment to maintaining strict border security, curbing illegal trafficking, and protecting the domestic market from the detrimental impacts of contraband goods.
Acting on a tip-off provided by intelligence sources, special teams of the BGB set up checkpoints and conducted thorough searches at vulnerable points along the frontier. During the operation, security personnel recovered a substantial quantity of Indian sarees, cosmetics, electronic items, and restricted spice products left abandoned by traffickers. Intelligence reports suggest that smuggling syndicates attempted to sneak these items into the country under the cover of darkness using remote paths. However, heightened vigilance and swift response from the border guards neutralized their attempts, resulting in the major seizure.
BGB officials reiterated that a zero-tolerance policy is currently in place to combat cross-border smuggling, which poses a serious threat to both national security and the national economy. Surveillance has been significantly stepped up not only in Kurigram but across all vulnerable border districts nationwide. Investigations are actively underway to identify and apprehend the kingpins and local operatives involved in these illicit networks.
Local residents in the border areas have expressed appreciation for the ongoing security operations, noting that proactive patrols by the border guards help maintain law and order. Community members emphasized that such rigorous measures safeguard legal businesses and local traders from unfair competition posed by smuggled goods. Many citizens have also pledged cooperation by providing timely information to security forces.
The seized contraband items are currently undergoing standard legal procedures. They will soon be handed over to customs authorities for official processing and subsequent disposal in accordance with the law. The BGB has affirmed that its anti-smuggling campaigns and intelligence-driven operations will continue unabated to ensure absolute security along the international borders.
