Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has decided to investigate the incidents surrounding the burial of freedom fighter Manik Pashari, who had testified against the party's late leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi in a 1971 crimes against humanity case. To oversee the inquiry, the party has formed a two-member probe committee.

The committee comprises Jamaat Central Executive Council members Saiful Alam Khan (Milan) and Nurul Islam Bulbul. The panel has been instructed to submit its investigation report within the next three days.

The decision was announced on Tuesday evening through a press release signed by Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer, the party's Assistant Secretary General and Secretary of the Central Publicity and Media Department. According to the release, a special meeting of Jamaat's Central Executive Council was held earlier that evening at the party's central office in Moghbazar, Dhaka, presided over by Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman.

The press release stated that the meeting held a detailed discussion on the recent events in Pirojpur. It was decided that an impartial investigation would be conducted to ascertain whether any Jamaat members were involved in the incident. Furthermore, the local party organization has been instructed to provide full cooperation to the probe committee.

Manik Pashari passed away last Saturday. Tensions arose in Pirojpur that same day regarding the provision of a state guard of honor for him, and opposition was reportedly faced during his burial as some locals demanded he not be interred in the area. During this time, leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami were seen gathering and taking positions at various key locations across Pirojpur town.

However, refuting the allegations of party involvement, Pirojpur District Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Zahirul Haque maintained that the party had no connection to the obstruction.

The 'BIG-B' initiative was first introduced by then-Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during the Bangladesh visit of then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in May 2014. Later, during the India visit of then-Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in ২০২৩, discussions emerged regarding this industrial zone surrounding the Bay of Bengal and India's inclusion in it.
