A young man named Rasel Hossain (30) was detained in the Shashangachha area of Comilla town after he went to retrieve a motorcycle impounded by traffic police, only to end up getting arrested himself. He attempted to release the vehicle by posing as an official of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police. However, suspicious of his identity, the police initiated verification and subsequently discovered that he was not a CID officer at all.

According to police, Rasel had been engaging in fraud for a long time by posing as a CID official. He kept photos on his mobile phone showing him wearing a CID jacket, which he generated using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

Md. Lutfor Rahman, Media Officer of the Comilla District Police and Additional Superintendent of Police, confirmed the matter to Chitra Post on Monday afternoon.

Police stated that the detained Rasel Hossain is a resident of Bhuiyan House in the Morichya area of Nangalkot (Manoharganj) upazila in the district.

According to district police data, traffic police personnel were on duty in the Shashangachha area last Saturday. At that time, when a motorcycle rider was signaled to stop, he claimed to be a CID officer and identified himself as Rasel. However, as he failed to show valid documents for the motorcycle and proper proof of identity, the duty sergeant sent the vehicle to the dumping yard in accordance with the rules.

The following day, Sunday, Rasel went to the traffic police office to get the motorcycle released. Even then, he introduced himself as a CID officer. Growing suspicious of his demeanor and claims, the on-duty traffic police personnel informed the District Detective Branch (DB) of police. A team of DB police rushed to the traffic office and verified his identity, confirming the fraud.
