Marking the death anniversary of Jibanananda Das, one of the most celebrated poets of Bengali literature, the Barishal University chapter of Bondhushabha organized a special virtual reading circle. Held on October 22, the literary gathering brought together young readers, literature enthusiasts, and organization members to explore, analyze, and celebrate the life, philosophy, and timeless creations of the modern Bengali poetic icon. The session was presided over by the organization's president, Zahid Hasan, and smoothly conducted by organizational secretary Saif Uddin.
The event commenced with a soulful recitation of selected poems by Jibanananda Das. Members including Saif Uddin, Hasan Karim, and Rahela Sadmun enchanted the virtual gathering with their expressive poetry readings. Following the inaugural recitation, the discussion segment delved deep into various facets of the poet's life and literary genius. Conducting the session, Saif Uddin drew a parallel between the poet and the ideal boy portrayed in Kusumkumari Das's famous poem 'Adorsho Chhele', describing Jibanananda as a quiet, soft-spoken yet profoundly hardworking individual. He also presented an insightful analysis of the legendary literary character 'Banalata Sen', inviting thoughts from participating peers.
The discussion was further enriched by joint general secretary Mahin Faisal. In his remarks, he pointed out that while Jibanananda Das is predominantly celebrated as a quintessential poet, his literary canvas extended far beyond poetry alone. He authored numerous other remarkable literary pieces that significantly enriched the broader landscape of Bengali literature, urging the younger generation to explore the entirety of his creative portfolio.
Adding a distinct perspective to the conversation, member Rahela Sadmun shed light on the poet's profound appreciation for nature. She remarked that the way Jibanananda captured the serene beauty of rural Bengal in his verses remains astonishing. The rural landscapes and natural phenomena we observe today were vividly visualized and recorded by the poet with immense affection over a century ago, proving his timeless relevance.
Concluding the session, president Zahid Hasan emphasized the universal appeal embedded within the poet's works. He stated that Jibanananda Das effortlessly wove the rustic charm of Bengal with the broader beauty of the entire universe through deep compassion and artistic mastery. The virtual gathering also saw active participation from other members, including Isnain, Faria, Rimu, and Adrita. Organizers expressed hope that such literary initiatives will continue to nurture the intellectual growth and cultural appreciation of the youth.
