Two individuals arrested in connection with a fire incident involving a vintage car used by the late popular Bangladeshi film actor Manna have been sent to jail by a Dhaka court. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Juneja issued the order on Tuesday following a police petition seeking their detention. The arrested individuals are Mamun Mondal, a manager for the late actor's family, and Sohel Patwary, a technician. The incident has drawn significant attention from fans and the film fraternity alike.
According to the case statement and legal representatives, the car had been left unused in the garage of a residential building in Dhaka's Bashundhara area since Manna's untimely passing in 2008. Recently, building authorities requested the vehicle's removal due to an oil leak. Although Manna's wife instructed manager Mamun to take the car to an outside workshop for professional repairs, the instructions were allegedly ignored, and work began directly inside the building's basement garage.
On Monday evening, a sudden fire broke out from the vehicle while repair work was underway, creating panic in the area. Following the incident, a case was filed at the Bhatara police station. The investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Md. Yaur Rahman, produced the accused in court and petitioned for their continued detention, stating that preliminary findings indicated negligence and that their custody was necessary until the investigation concluded.
Defense counsel Khademul Islam confirmed the court's order, stating that the fire was purely accidental and resulted from unexpected mechanical failures while attempting to service a long-abandoned vehicle. He emphasized that the accused had no malicious intent and noted that a formal bail petition would be argued before the court on Wednesday.
The incident has highlighted safety concerns regarding vehicle maintenance and repairs within residential basement garages. Fire safety experts note that long-stabled vehicles often develop hidden fuel leaks or electrical faults that can ignite easily in enclosed spaces. As the court prepares to hear the bail petition, public and legal attention remains focused on the outcome of the proceedings.
