The recent attack on Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff has sent shockwaves through the Indian film industry, prompting an urgent re-evaluation of security protocols on film sets. On the evening of October 18, while returning from a football match in the Juhu area of Mumbai, Tiger Shroff’s vehicle was targeted by gunfire. While the actor narrowly escaped physical harm, his driver and another individual sustained injuries. This alarming incident has highlighted the vulnerability of public figures and the need for more robust security measures within the entertainment sector.
In response to the growing threat, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has issued a comprehensive set of security guidelines for film sets and studios. The federation emphasized that security should not be a privilege reserved only for A-list stars but a fundamental right for every technician, crew member, and worker on set. The recent string of threats and attacks involving prominent figures like Salman Khan and director Rohit Shetty has further underscored the necessity of a systemic overhaul in how film productions manage security.
Under the new directives, FWICE has mandated strict identity verification for anyone entering a film set or studio. Production houses are now required to maintain detailed records of all personnel, including background checks and professional credentials, before hiring. The federation argues that proactive measures, such as rigorous vetting and controlled access, are essential to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating production environments.
Furthermore, the organization has called for the maintenance of a centralized database of all workers to ensure accountability and rapid response in case of emergencies. The focus is shifting from merely providing personal bodyguards for lead actors to creating a secure, monitored environment for the entire production unit. Industry experts believe that these measures are vital to restoring confidence among artists and crew members who have been increasingly concerned about their safety.
Following the attack, security has been significantly tightened across various film locations in Mumbai. Local law enforcement is actively investigating the incident to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. The film fraternity remains hopeful that the implementation of these stringent guidelines by FWICE will mitigate risks and ensure that the creative process can continue in a safe and secure atmosphere.
