The phone call first brought news that his son had died in a road accident. Twenty minutes later, another call came, informing him that his 18-month-old granddaughter had also passed away. Stunned by the consecutive tragedies, 65-year-old Abdus Sattar was left speechless, and his cries for his son and granddaughter have not stopped since.
Abdus Sattar hails from Moleyabad village in the Kaliaish Union of Chattogram's Satkania upazila. Last Friday night, his son Md. Delwar (31) and granddaughter Wasifa Jannat were killed in a tragic road accident. Delwar's wife, Reshmi Akhter, was severely injured in the same crash and is currently struggling for her life in a hospital.
Day and night, relentless wailing echoes through the family's home following the deaths of Delwar and young Wasifa. Overwhelmed by grief, Delwar's 55-year-old mother, Kamrunnahar Begum, keeps fainting from continuous crying.
Visiting the Moleyabad village home on Sunday afternoon, the sounds of mourning could be heard from afar. The residence of the deceased Delwar was filled with grieving relatives and neighbors who gathered to console his parents, Abdus Sattar and Kamrunnahar. However, nothing could stem their boundless grief, as the heartbroken couple repeatedly invoked the names of their lost son and granddaughter.
Overcome with sorrow, Abdus Sattar told Chitra Post, "Someone called my mobile phone first to inform me about the accident, saying my son had died. We were rushing to the scene when another call came 20 minutes later, saying my granddaughter was also no more, and that my daughter-in-law had been hospitalized."
Wiping away his tears, Abdus Sattar added, "My daughter-in-law has lost her husband and her child, and now she is in the ICU. We do not know what will happen. How are we supposed to live after losing our son and granddaughter like this?"
Delwar, the victim of the fatal accident, worked for a private organization.
