A tragic incident of domestic abuse and suspected murder has sent shockwaves through the capital, as a young homemaker named Jumratun Nesa Borsha (24) died under mysterious circumstances in the Manipuripara area of Dhaka. Prior to her death, the victim made a desperate video call to her father late at night, pleading to be rescued from relentless physical torture allegedly inflicted by her husband over dowry demands. Following the incident, the victim's father lodged a formal murder case at the Tejgaon Police Station, leading to the apprehension of the accused husband.
According to the victim's family, Borsha and Nabid Hossain had entered into a marriage of affection about a year prior to the tragedy. However, marital discord surfaced soon after the wedding as the unemployed husband began exerting continuous pressure on Borsha's family for money. Despite the family's previous financial accommodations to maintain peace, Nabid's demands escalated, resulting in frequent physical assaults on Borsha. Relatives disclosed that Borsha had previously required hospital treatment due to severe beatings by her husband, a fact that had been kept hidden from her parents at the time to salvage the marriage.
The situation culminated on Tuesday midnight when Nabid allegedly demanded money once again and subjected Borsha to brutal physical abuse. In a shocking display of cruelty, a member of the husband's family even recorded a video of the assault and sent it to the victim's relatives. Unable to endure the torture, Borsha placed a distressed video call to her father, Sheikh Monowar Hossain, around midnight. Visibly terrified and in tears, she repeatedly begged her father to rescue her from the apartment, warning that she might not survive otherwise. Amidst these desperate pleas, the video call abruptly disconnected.
Overwhelmed with panic, family members rushed to the Manipuripara residence to check on her safety. Upon arrival, they discovered a grim reality and immediately transported her to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty physicians declared her dead upon arrival. Physicians noted that she appeared to have passed away before reaching the hospital. The grieving family immediately accused the husband of murder, pointing to visible marks of physical trauma on her body.
Law enforcement agencies acted promptly upon receiving the complaint. The Tejgaon Police Station registered a murder case filed by the victim's father against the husband, Nabid Hossain. Authorities have detained the accused for questioning as part of an ongoing comprehensive investigation. Police officials stated that further legal steps, including arrests and charges, will proceed formally upon the finalization of the autopsy report, which is expected to shed definitive light on the exact cause of death.
