  • •Public urged to prevent water stagnation to control dengue outbreaks.

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has adopted a zero-tolerance policy to reclaim public roads and sidewalks from illegal encroachment. DSCC Administrator Md. Abdus Salam announced that from now on, any unauthorized street vending or sidewalk occupation will result in immediate legal action and the confiscation of goods. This directive was issued during the city's weekly 'Cleaning Day' campaign, which focused on mosquito control and sanitation efforts across all 75 wards of the corporation.

Administrator Abdus Salam emphasized that previous attempts to clear the streets through requests and warnings have yielded limited results. He stated that the city's residents deserve clear pathways and relief from the persistent traffic congestion caused by illegal stalls. He asserted that the administration will no longer prioritize the interests of encroachers over the rights of pedestrians, and strict adherence to city regulations will be enforced moving forward.

As part of this initiative, a major eviction drive is scheduled for next week in the New Market area, one of the city's busiest commercial hubs. The administrator made it clear that no hawkers will be permitted to operate on the roads or sidewalks in that vicinity. This move is part of a broader strategy to restore order and improve urban mobility in the capital.

Beyond the eviction efforts, the DSCC is intensifying its campaign against dengue fever. Residents have been urged to ensure that water does not stagnate for more than three days in any location, as stagnant water serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The corporation plans to continue its awareness rallies and public outreach programs to address environmental concerns, including air pollution and waste management.

In addition to these measures, the city has taken steps to improve sanitation infrastructure, such as relocating the Secondary Transfer Station (STS) from in front of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) office in Malibagh. These coordinated efforts reflect the administration's commitment to improving the urban landscape and ensuring a cleaner, more accessible city for all residents.
