According to the victim's colleague, Nayan Hossain, Maruf worked at a cookware manufacturing factory. They were returning home after work in the evening when a stray bullet suddenly struck Maruf near his neck as they reached the Dhalpur WASA gate area. He was immediately rescued and taken to the hospital, though Nayan stated he could not understand who fired the shots or why.

Nur Hossain, a neighbor of Maruf, told Chitra Post that Maruf was hit by a bullet as soon as he reached the WASA gate area on his way home from work. He had heard that a gunfight was taking place between two groups in the area, and Maruf was struck by the crossfire.

Jatrabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Raju Ahmed told Chitra Post that he was aware of the young man's death by shooting. However, police have not yet been able to confirm the motive or identify the perpetrators, and law enforcement personnel are currently investigating the scene.
