A wild animal attack in the border area of Hatibandha upazila in Lalmonirhat has left three people, including a woman, seriously injured. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon in the Amjhol area of Gotamari union, triggering widespread panic among local residents. According to locals and victims, a tiger-like wild beast was reportedly spotted inside a local paddy field, which launched the sudden and aggressive attack. Authorities and local administration are closely monitoring the situation as community members demand immediate intervention from wildlife officials.
According to local accounts, the incident unfolded around 4:00 PM on Sunday when Sharifa Begum, a resident of the Amjhol border area, went out to search for her missing goat near a paddy field. Upon reaching the location, she allegedly discovered a large wild animal feeding on her livestock. Shocked by the sight, she screamed for help, prompting the aggressive beast to turn and attack her. Hearing her desperate cries, nearby villagers rushed to her rescue, only to be targeted and injured by the same animal during the ensuing chaos.
The injured individuals have been identified as Sharifa Begum (22), wife of Abdul Wahab; Afsar Hossain (40), son of the late Monir Hossain; and Nazrul Islam (35), son of Gomir Uddin. All three hail from the Amjhol area. Immediately following the attack, they were rushed to the Hatibandha Upazila Health Complex for initial medical attention. Due to the severity of their injuries, Sharifa and Afsar were subsequently transferred to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, while Nazrul received local medical care.
Dr. Bulbul Ahmed, the on-duty physician at the isolation ward of Rangpur Medical College Hospital, stated that the two patients were admitted late in the evening. He noted that the female patient's condition is relatively critical, bearing deep wounds on her head and hands, while the male patient sustained severe injuries on the back of his body. Dr. Ahmed emphasized that animal bites always carry a certain level of health risk, but medical staff are rigorously following standard treatment protocols to ensure their recovery.
In the wake of the incident, local law enforcement agencies and border security forces have taken note of the situation. The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has gathered preliminary information regarding the wild animal sighting near the border. Local union parishad representatives and residents have urged the forest department to deploy teams to identify the animal, capture it, and ensure the safety of villagers who remain gripped by fear and reluctant to venture outdoors after dark.
